I endorse the following software. They are free and open source.

FEDORA Operating System.

I use Fedora operating system in my computers. It works pretty well, although sometimes I need to put some effort to work out problems. As time passes it became better and better.

Gretl (excellent econometric software)

Gretl is the main econometric software I use. Its simply and always improving. Also, the Gretl community works promptly in solving issues, updating the program and supporting its users. Excellent.

R Statistics (the best of its kind)

Lyx (Document processor based on the structure of the document, WYSIWYM)

Lyx is the best document writer to get papers in a stylist fashion. Its pretty simple, and has a great wiki.
